DL — Deep Learning

Deep Learning (DL) is a subset of machine learning that uses multi-layered neural networks to learn complex patterns from large amounts of data.

Deep learning is particularly powerful for unstructured data such as:

  • Images
  • Audio
  • Video
  • Natural language
  • Speech

A simplified structure looks like:

Output

The word “deep” refers to the multiple layers in the neural network.

For example, when recognizing a face:

Modern systems such as large language models are built using deep-learning techniques.
